Perhaps they can Register Wooden Spoons

The Tele reports:
Smacking kids can be tantamount to child abuse and should be banned in Australia, the nation's leading paediatricians said yesterday.
This was one of the most hotly discussed topics on talkback radio today as well.

Regardless of your views on smacking children, what is the point of creating another law that can't possibly be enforced? I can already see how this will be abused. Petulant children will call the Police to arrest their parents for not letting them play X-Box. Parents in custody battles will accuse each other of smacking as a tactic.

Education campaigns are important. However creating unenforceable laws which will be ignored and misused simply encourages disrespect for the law.
