Privatisation of government services is not the same as selling off assets

Antony Loewenstein's best-selling My Israel Question is, in its first edition at least, a poorly researched fiasco of opinionated misinformation. Unbelievable as it may seem, Loewenstein's upcoming book on the evils of capitalism is almost certain to be an even greater disaster.

Loewenstein is of late fixed on service provider Serco as exemplifying all that is wrong with privatisation. He is unable to distinguish between the privatisation of government services and the selling off of government assets, however, as here, for example.

Loewenstein again displays his ignorance, this time in a contribution to Crikey:
United Voice union is leading a campaign to fight the government’s expected $3 billon contract with Serco to privatise Fiona Stanley Hospital. Public protests in Perth are on the increase and union leaders tell Crikey that the sell-off move has happened without any public consultation.
Contracting with Serco to provide hospital services is not the same as selling-off the hospital. Duh!

Update More Loewenstein lunacy:
The recent push to boycott and/or highlight the gross human rights abuses in Sri Lanka during the Galle Literary Festival...
Loewenstein is, of course, attempting to refer to alleged human rights abuses during fighting in Sri Lanka, not that occurring during the Galle Literary Festival.

My Israel Question was released at least three times, each time with fewer embarrassing errors, but at no time error free.

Loewenstein tried to claim that the reprints were proof of his success, boasting about them while never disclosing the actual numbers. The Australian did it for him, noting he'd sold about 5000 copies, many of which no doubt were bought by people who think Loewenstein is a fool. When asked the question directly, Loewenstein never, ever responded.

I doubt his new book will make it to a second print (if it even makes it to the first). His next book: My Pulping Question.

By the way, isn't it funny how Antony hasn't said a single word - not one - about the murder earlier this week of the Fogel Family, whose children and babies were slaughtered (warning - graphic images) merely for being Jewish. The very people of which Antony is encouraging a boycott.

I guess reporting of a man who killed babies in the name of Allah, doesn't fit in with his whole 'Jews are Nazis' meme.

I would have been interested in his analysis of the case. I guess he was too busy talking about Serco or something and couldn't find an article on Electronic Intifada to plagiarise.

Yes Antony, we are laughing at you.

To make Lowenstein's statement appear even more stupid, Serco are just contracted to do facilities management. They are not contracted to do any clinical work. (Source - 10 second google search)

To offset the inimical influence of AL, I feel we need the relief and contrast of a real Jewish writer who can spell, speak, reflect, and stay humble:

Incidentally, she also wrote a great piece in 2004 on the antiSemitism flood engulfing Israel - the flood constantly increased by AL's contributions:

Trust him to ignore the murder of Sri Lankan civilians (of all ethnicities) at the hands of the Tamil Tiger terrorists.
