IRAQ: LAND OF OPPORTUNITY

Ugandans are queuing up to work in Iraq:
As President Barack Obama announces plans to withdraw US troops from Iraq, thousands of young Ugandans are increasingly desperate to be sent to the war-torn country. Already, the Ugandan government says there are more than 10,000 men and women from this poverty-stricken East African nation working as private security guards in Iraq.
Free market economics producing cultural diversity. Cool.

You sure know how to spin a story, JF. Desperately impoverished Ugandans (who also sign up for military jobs in Somalia) are prepared to risk their lives to earn money in a war economy and you see it as a victory for the free market.

There is now a free market in Iraq courtesy of the mighty USofA. During its emergence one of the free market's products, an enormous industry called security, sprung into action. Ugandans see this as an opportunity to further their lives and have taken full opportunity of it. Later if they decide to stay they will most likely buy a small business, or import/export, or do something else as the free market allows choice for individuals. Hopefully all this will occur with a minimum of government interference. Great story Beck. Mehaul.
